The 2010 Annual Meeting and 30th Anniversary Celebration of the Benton MacKaye Trail Association will
take place the weekend of November 5-7 in Cherry Log, Georgia. Please Pre-Register Now, as space is
limited. To preregister, go to http://www.bmta.org/AnnualMeeting.php.
The Meeting Place for all activities is the former (not the current) location of the Cherry Log Christian
Church on Route 515 in Cherry Log, Georgia. This is right where the Benton MacKaye Trail crosses
the highway, and there will be signs for the events.
(Tentative Schedule)
Friday, Nov. 5 –
4.7 mile moderate Hike from Springer Mountain to 1st Cross Trails & Return, BMT-AT Loop,
Departure Time from Meeting Place – 12:30 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 6 -
Hike A – 6.1 Miles from Fall Branch Falls to Weaver Creek Road. Moderately Strenuous,
Departure Time – 9:00 a.m.
Hike B – Memorial Hike for George Haney - About 3 Miles of Trail used to maintain. Easy to Moderate,
Departure Time – 9:00 a.m.
Hike C - Toccoa River Suspension Bridge via Toonowee Mountain - About 7.2 miles. Moderately
difficult, Departure Time – 9:00 a.m.
3:00 PM - Leave No Trace Training Program at the Meeting Hall, with Ms. Christine Hoyer of the
National Park Service.
4:00 PM - Essential Backpacking Equipment and Skills Class with Travis Crouch of North Georgia
Mountain Outfitters.
5:00 PM - Social Hour and renew friendships, with music from the Casey Dillard Band.
6:00 PM - Dinner-Registration Required, see http://www.bmta.org/AnnualMeeting.php for prices and
to reserve your places.
7:30 PM - History of the BMTA, with George Owen and Darcy Douglas, plus others.
8:00 PM - Annual Meeting. Recognition of those who have helped us over the years, plus election
of new Directors.
Sunday, Nov. 7 -
4.5 miles from Watson Gap to Dyer Gap. Moderate,
Departure Time – 9:00 a.m.
More hikes and events may be added. Just plan to join us for the whole weekend and celebrate 30 years
of the BMTA!
