IMPORTANT REMINDER!!!!
GEORGIA BMTA AUGUST
MAINTENANCE TRIP
Saturday, August 14
BMTA members – It is important that we have a good representation at this event!
This is our special annual join venture with the Conasauga District horse people on the Benton MacKaye
Trail from Spanish Oak Gap in the Cohutta Wilderness to the Tennessee state line at Double Springs
Gap. The horse people go in the longer distance to maintain, and we take a shorter jaunt to slingblade
& lop closer to the parking lot at Dally Gap. It’s a great and fun time together. Soft drinks and watermelon
will be provided at the end in early afternoon. The work will not be difficult this time. The horse people will
carry the heavy equipment and go to far end of the section. Temperature is predicted to be in the eighties
at this elevation.
Important time change: We will meet at 7:45 a.m. and leave at 8:15 at the Village Restaurant in Blue Ridge
(a quick buffet breakfast). We need to be at the gap by 9:00 a.m. Larry Thomas of the U.S. Forest
Service will be overall coordinator of this event, but George Owen will be assisting him for the BMTA
contingent. Please contact George at 706-374-4716 or gowen2@tds.net to let him know you plan to
come. Let’s have a good turnout . We can whip this section into great shape if we get enough folks.
This would be an especially good trip for the many recent newcomers to the BMTA.
