Fellow BMTA members,


I am sad to inform you that Gayle Jones, wife of Ken Jones passed away yesterday (Thursday morning)
after a long battle with cancer. Gayle kept a positive attitude to the end and, according to Ken, never
complained about being a person having to deal with this terrible affliction. There will be visitation tonight 6-8 pm at Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home in Athens, TN with a short service at 8 pm. The service will be
conducted by Pastor Tazz Reid, Cleveland Community Chapel. A graveside service will be held Saturday
4 pm (CDT) at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery in Red Bay Alabama.


For our new members who are not familiar with Ken and Gayle, Ken has been a long-time member of the
BMTA. He has served on the board for many years and is largely credited for being the main person
who planned and helped to build the section of the BMT through Tennessee and North Carolina from the
Ocoee River to the Smokies. Ken spent hundreds, if not thousands of hours, in this huge effort, and
Gayle was highly supportive of Ken in this labor of love for the trail and the BMTA.

Please keep Ken in your thoughts and prayers as he goes through this difficult time.
