I just wanted all of you to know that we have accomplished something great - at least I think it is
great. The Heart of Darkness, BMT Sections 16a and 16b, Sandy Gap to Sled Runner Gap, has
been conquered once and for all. At least for a few months. This hard to maintain section is now
completely brushed and logged out and the blazes have all be refreshed. You all can check it out
when you come to the Annual Meeting at Coker Creek. It is a beautiful section and very remote,
full of wildlife, just like that Heart of Darkness in Africa. On our work trips we have seen many
many bear, boar and other critters. Just today while refreshing blazes on section 16b we saw
2 bears, 3 sets of hogs, 3 red tailed hawks and a red headed woodpecker which flew right in front
of us. Yesterday I saw 2 bears along the trail and a fox which crossed the road and I was driving
out.
