Thanks very much for the input. It is very useful indeed. We will
certainly have a worktrip devoted that section of the trail this fall.
And will try to get someone out to deal with the blowdown asap.

A couple of quick questions:

1.What is the diameter of the biggest branch/trunk of the blowdown?
The question is whether a chainsaw will be needed or it can be done
with bowsaws and a little sweat equity.

2. From earlier reports I assume that the worst section of the trail as
far as washing out in heavy rain, is on the climb out of the gap that is
just beyond the bald when going north. Could you please confirm that,
or let me know if other place(s) that need attention on that score - as
best you can.

Subject: Section Update


We hiked the section from 3 Forks north to the suspension bridge this
weekend. I thought I would drop a note about the section.

There is a LARGE blowdown between Long Creek and where you
turn up to the bald. (big) The spring after the bald currently has water.
Bryson Gap has good reliable water. A lot of the trail in this section is
in need of trail breaks. After the hard rain this weekend the trail was
washed bare and it looks more like a creek bed than a trail.
