Georgia Members/Maintainers,
It's Volunteer Vacation Weekend in East Tennessee!
Join us next weekend working the most remote section of the BMT.
See Beaverdam Bald and Sled Runner Gap for yourself. 4000+ feet and
glorious views.
Stay at the Green Cove Motel Friday and/or Saturday night. ($39 per
night!)
Four-wheel drive transport provided (it's needed) from the Green Cove
to the trailhead Saturday and Sunday morning. Departing 8:30AM.
Or camp on Beaverdam Bald with Eric and friends.
Detailed directions available (from Eric Eades) for those who want to
drive themselves. See below.
Five Georgia maintainers are in already. Join us. There's plenty of
room in the Green Cove Motel!
Details below.
IF YOU NEED A RIDE TO THE TRAIL SAT. OR SUN. MORNING, BE SURE TO LET ME
KNOW, SO WE DON'T LEAVE WITHOUT YOU!

Special Call to Georgia Members/Maintainers,
Since we completed the trail through to the Smokies in 2005, we have
had several remote areas, mostly along the TN/NC line that are a
difficult sell to a potential maintainer. Through the heroic efforts of
our TN/NC members (and a few GA friends) we've made some major progress
on some of these "orphan sections", but others still need attention
before the hiking season is in full swing.
So... join us for all or part of a long weekend May 9-12 (Friday eve.
through Monday) for a joint GA/TN/NC work trip in the middle of the
worst sections.
Drop in; Drop out. Come when you can, leave when you must.
But come...ALL HANDS ON DECK!!!!
Choices, Choices, Choices - for Accommodations:
Camp, stay in a rustic motel nearby (that's what Jane and I are doing),
or just come for a day.
However you do it,.... be part of this historic attack on brambles and
other unwanted vegetation.
We'll provide the tools. You bring yourself, your clothes, food - and
work gloves.
For Campers: we will have a campsite just below Beaverdam Bald.
For Softies like me: Motel accommodations are available at Green Cove,
not far from the work site, [Google "Green Cove Motel & Trailer Camp,
TN" for details: Phone (423) 253-2069. (They have 26 rooms, including 5
with a kitchenette).
Please note: a 4 wheel drive vehicle is advised to get to the work
site. If you don't have a 4-wheel ... we'll work out a shuttle...we just
need to plan ahead, and communicate.
For directions, and more info, call to trip leader Eric Eades,
706-313-0873.
We hope to make this an annual event. Be there at the
beginning....
Join us! Bring light to the Heart of Darkness.
Tom Keene
GA Maintenance Director.
