Betty and all,

Imagine my surprise upon opening this email. I am an elected member of the BMTA
Board, one of the 16 mentioned below (and Life Member). My vote is one of those
unaccounted for. The reason for this is because I was not made aware that a vote
was going to take place. I'm quite concerned that the board has taken such an extreme
measure as to remove another board member without notifying the entire board.
I have been excluded from everything having to do with this matter, and thus denied
participation in the discussions, meetings, and correspondence that have lead up to
this action. I was not notified of the conference call, and have still not received a copy
of the minutes from that call that were distributed to other board members. I question
the judgment of the board's decision to pick and choose the board members they
wanted to participate in this action. Would my input have changed the outcome?
Regrettably, we will never know.

Because of this exclusion, I am resigning the Secretary position immediately. This is
just a formality, since this board has already cut me off from all board activities. I do,
however, look forward to continuing my contribution to the trail as a section maintainer
of the top of Big Frog Mountain.

My positions as Publicity Director and Secretary have provided the opportunity to meet
many new people. I leave with the priceless gift of cherished new friendships formed
with fellow board and club members, as well as the BMT hiking community.

All BMTA members:

In our club bylaws, Article IV, Section 9 which specifically addresses the expulsion of
a board member states 'Any member of the Board may be removed by a majority vote
of the entire Board of Directors.' At present the entire board consists of 16 members.
A total of 9 members of the board voted for the expulsion of Bill Ristom from the board,
two voted against explusion and there was one abstention. The four unacountted for
votes, if submitted, probably would have been against expulsion or abstensions.
The board regrets having to make this decision as Bill has long been a valuable and
hard-working member. It is important to note that Bill is still a member of the BMTA and
may still address the board via email or in person at the next regularly scheduled board
meeting regarding this action.
