The item below announcing our BMTA Annual Meeting was sent you earlier. Deadline for motel rooms is Oct. 20. Deadline for Annual Meeting evening with dinner reservations is Oct. 25. Please hurry; details below:
BMTA Annual Meeting in Blairsville November 3;
Three Days of Hikes Weekend of 2-4; Rooms Available
It’s our event of the year and you’re invited: the BMTA 2007 Annual Meeting November 2-4, Friday afternoon through Sunday.
This year the grand Annual Meeting itself will be held Saturday evening, November 3, at 6:00 p.m. in the University of Georgia Mountain Experiment Station auditorium approximately three miles south of Blairsville, GA on U.S. 19.
Come for the evening, the whole day, two days, or the entire November 2-4 weekend of fun.
Three Days of Hikes
Hikes at various levels of ability will be held Friday afternoon, during the day Saturday, and Sunday. Trails to be used include the two great ones: the Benton MacKaye Trail and the Appalachian Trail.
The November 3 Annual Meeting itself will feature a dinner catered by the nearby Riverbend Restaurant at Pappy’s. Cost for the evening meal and events is $12 per person adults, $8 per child under 12. Food is buffet style and plentiful – two meats (one low cal), veggies, cobbler choices, tea and coffee.
Trails Expert Bob Williams Speaks
Bob Williams is the featured speaker for the evening. He brings us a wide experience from hiking and trail leadership across parts of the Southeast. Professionally he is a journalist.
In addition, our Annual Meeting features awards, recognitions, brief reports, and election of our Board. Special concluding entertainment is a few humorous songs by guest Bavarian Bert Kunze on his accordion and guitar. Afterwards there is time to visit and simply enjoy each other.
OVERNIGHT ROOMS: A large block of rooms are being held for our group at the downtown Blairsville Seasons Inn. Cost at our special rate is $56 per room per night including tax. (Up to four people can stay in some rooms – all for only $56 total among you – hard to beat!) You are urged to secure a room by October 20. For those who like to rough it, bunks with showers are also being held for us at the Hike Inn Hostel at nearby Neels Gap at one-third off at $10 per person. Also, some rooms for free are being secured in a few private homes of local members.
Register Today
REGISTRATION: You are urged to make your reservation now for the Annual Meeting with our registrar Linda Davis by contacting her at 423-476-3894 or mldavi5@bellsouth.net to confirm your attendance. Then immediately send her your check (each adult $12; each child under twelve $8) made out to simply “BMTA” and mail to: Linda Davis, 902 Steed St., NW, Cleveland TN 37311. You may find out from Linda information about Blairsville/Blue Ridge area homes housing members or reserve a room at the Seasons Inn in Blairsville (mention the trail club) at 1-800-901-4422 or the bunks at the rustic but charming Neels Gap Hostel at 1-888-686-9464.
Upon registration more detailed information on the hikes, meals, etc. will be sent you.
Remember: Bring your family…and guests…yes, guests are welcome.
