우리 조지아 산악회가 관리할 밴톤맥케이(BMT)의 구간이 확정되어 지난 토요일 노치승 회장과 이만호 전회장이 답사하였으며 아래의 트레일 관리기준에 의거한 조사를 마치고 보고서를 제출하여 오늘 회답을 받았습니다. 내주 중에 관리세부규정 팩키지가 도착하면 9월 첫 주 토요일, 일요일 1차 작업을 할 예정입니다. 관리구간은 색션 2b의 3마일입니다. 토코아리버 쪽이나 Three Forks쪽 어느쪽으로라도 진입이 가능하지만, 양쪽 다 2.5마일 Walk-in하여야 관리지역으로 들어 갈 수 있다. 3마일 전 구간이 능선(Ridge line)이라 계곡길 보다 작업량은 많지 않습니다. 현재 식수원은 한 군데 있지만 하나 더 찾을 수 있는 가능성도 있구요. 하여튼 여러분의 관심과 참여가 있어야 우리도 떳떳한 하이커로 자긍심을 키울 수 있겠습니다. 한다하면 기차게 두드러지게 잘 해내는 한민족의 특질을 보여 주고 싶습니다. 회원님들의 성원 부탁드립니다.

-- TRAIL STANDARDS --

1) Treadway: At least 18 inches wide with a *slight* tilt to the outside.
*트레드웨이는 사람들이 밟고 지나가는 오목하게 패인 산길이다.
- Is sidehill work needed?
- Are water diversions clear and working?
- Any significant erosion damage?
- Signs of illegal ATV or horse use/damage?
- Any wet or muddy areas?

2) Trail Corridor: 4 ft wide by 8 ft high clearance.
*트레일 코리더는 트레드웨이의 양 옆 공간을 말한다. 말 그대로 건물의 복도를 연상하면 된다. 옆으로 4피트 높이 8피트는 키 큰 하이커가 배낭을 메고 반바지 차림으로 산행하여도 가시덤불이나 포이존아이비 등에 걸리지 않도록 주위의 풀을 제거하여야 한다.
- Is brush work needed?
- Are any blowdowns higher than 20 inches off the ground blocking the trail? (Give Approximate diameter.)
Note: The full 4'x8' corridor may close in some during the growing season. The operative question is, can a tall hiker, dressed in shorts, with a big pack walk the trail comfortably without snagging on briars or brushing against poison ivy?

3) Blazes
밴톤맥케이 표식은 횐색 다이아몬드 형이다. 150야드 마다 양방향에 표시가 되어 있어야 한다.
- All intersections clearly marked going both directions?
- Where trail is well defined and there are no intersections, blazes about 150 yards apart?
- Are blazes clearly visible and in good condition?
- Are any blazes needed?
Note: No painted blazes are permitted in designated Wilderness.

4) Signs and Trail Markers
*우리 구간엔 한군데의 지명표시와 샘물 표시 하나만 있으면 된다.
- Are signs or trail markers damaged or missing?
- Are signs needed?
Note: The BMT standard in Georgia is a road sign, each way, at trail crossings of a public road. Also, Carsonite post and trail marker decals about 50 to 100 yards into the woods from each trailhead.
In Tennessee and North Carolina, there should be enough signage to easily follow the trail.
